Graduate Record Examinations or GRE conducted by ETS is the most common test accepted by many top graduate and business schools around the world. It makes easy for a student to get admission in their choice of course among the various offered disciplines. Testing the student's college-level Verbal, Quantitative (math), and Analytical Writing skills is the main objective of this test.

Prospective graduate or business school applicants can take GRE once in every 21 days for up to five times within any continuous 12-month period.

Who Can Apply:

Though there is no specific eligibility criteria to attempt this test, students who aspire for entry in Masters or Ph.D. courses abroad try to succeed in it.Afore giving it a try, it is better to check if your desired graduate school is accepting it as a part of admission or not. There are two test types in GRE, they are GRE General (Aptitude) testing your general aptitude skills and whereas GRE Subject (Subjective) tests the depth of student knowledge in a specific area.

Registration Process:

To attempt this test follow the below guidelines.

  1. First create an ETS account for GRE registration.
  2. For GRE General test type the registration can be done through Online, Phone, and Mail.
  3. For GRE subject test type you can opt either for an Online or Mail registration.
  4. Choose either a paper-delivered test or a computer-delivered test as per your convenience.
  5. Fill the required academic information and fields like location and date where you can attend the exam.
  6. The exam fee can be paid through online and cards like American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard or VISA are accepted at payment portal.
Test Details:
  1. A student can attempt the computer-based test for 5 times around the year. And can have a choice regarding their own test center depending on its availability.
  2. Admit Card for the exam will be directly mailed to student mail id.
  3. Time varies for computer-based and paper-based exams.
  4. The results of computer-based exams are available within 10 to 15 days of the test.
Syllabus and Pattern:

Verbal Reasoning - Testing the student's ability in understanding the perception of the author, conclusions on information and ideology in framing the partial information is the main intention of this test. Reading Comprehension, Text Completion and Sentence Equivalence are some of the vital sections in the Verbal Reasoning.

Quantitative Reasoning - Solving the sections of basic mathematics, concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data interpretation measures the analyzing and problem-solving ability of the student.

Analytical writing assessment - The ability of the student to stay focused and analyze the situation providing a suitable idea on the particular issue is assessed through this test. And the reasonability of chosen facts on the argument is significant. Also, our rational thinking and reasonable argument on the essay topic pointing the pros and cons gives an idea of your critical thinking and writing skills.
