IELTS or International English Language Testing System is a globally conducted test generally used to measure the proficiency of non-native English speakers and countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK etc., accept it in issuing of visa under migration, study, and work. The score is decided based on the performance of a student in Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking which are four sections in linguistic skills.

Modules in IELTS :

Academic : Candidates keen enough to study at various levels or disciplines in universities abroad, and those who seek professional registration, for example, to register with General Medical or the Dental Medical councils in UK one should be qualified in this test.

General Training : Those who wish to migrate to an English speaking country can apply for this test.

SELT (Secure English Language Test) : Test conducted for people who wish to migrate to UK.

Exam Pattern :
Listening :

Candidate will be given 30 Minutes and an option of extra 10 minute's transfer time.Totally 40 Questions in the form of multiple choices, matching, map or diagram labeling, note completion, table completion, flowchart completion, sentence completion, short-answer questions, etc. are given to the candidate.Examiners conduct 4 test parts in the form of 2 conversations and 2 monologues, they hear your opinions on different social and academic context. Keep in mind that you will be tested only once.Your skills are assessed depending on your ideas, specific factual information, and various other factors. On the scale of 1 to 9, you will be score 9 if you get 40 marks. You will receive 1 mark for each correct answer.

Reading :

Within 60 minutes you need to answer 40 questions presented to you in different varieties. Your skills are assessed starting from understanding your inferences to the actual implied meaning. If you answer correctly for a question you will be awarded 1 mark. In the end on a band scale of 1 to 9, your marks place a crucial role in deciding this score.

Writing :

The candidate should accomplish 2 tasks in given 60 minutes. You need to use the least 150 words to compose an essay to complete Task-1, whereas for Task-2 in the least 250 words are must. Topics vary for academic and general candidates. Examiners conclude the marks depending on performance and if the candidate is able to fulfill criteria of Achievement & Response, Coherence & Cohesion, Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range & Accuracy.

Speaking :

Within the time range of 11 - 14 minutes, you will face 3 kinds of tests in a face-to-face oral interview with the examiner. Keep in mind that this whole process is voice recorded. In the first section, general introduction and interview take place. In the second section, a topic is given and 1 minute time is allotted to prepare yourself, you will talk on the topic for 1 - 2 minutes. The third section seems like a continuation of the second section, where a discussion occurs between you and the interviewer.

Must Know :

The test results of IELTS are generally declared 13 days after the test. And these results are valid for 2 years.
